The University of Tennessee Medical Center Emergency Department project involved both a two-story addition and a renovation of the existing facility. The new addition provides expanded lobby, triage, behavioral health, decontamination, and patient room areas, along with a larger ambulance bay. Project phasing was carefully coordinated with facility, administrative, and provider staff to ensure safe, uninterrupted access for ambulances and ambulatory patients, while minimizing disruption to Emergency Department operations—even amid major sitework, demolition, and new construction. The expansion was delivered in two primary phases: (1) the main emergency department expansion and second-floor shell area, and (2) behavioral health department expansion. Major facility infrastructure upgrades, including a new chiller and boiler, were also integrated and coordinated with construction phasing.
