David W. Smith, Executive Vice President

Beginning his career in the construction industry in the late 1970s, David came to Johnson & Galyon Construction in 1983. He earned two degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The first was in business administration in 1975, before earning his second degree in civil engineering in 1983.

Smith’s career project list is extensive and includes projects like Episcopal School of Knoxville, Parkwest Medical Center, Mountain Loft Condominiums (Gatlinburg), Powell Middle School (renovations and additions) and several Webb School of Knoxville projects. He also directed the successful completion of the technically challenging Knoxville Transit Center project, a LEED certified initiative which spans a four lane urban highway.

David is a registered professional engineer. He is past president of the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee as well as the Knoxville chapter. Currently he is on the board of both the Resource Valley Construction Training Council and Work Force Connections. Smith also serves on the Habitat for Humanity Construction Committee.

He and his wife, Lucy, have two children – Ryan and Hayley.
